Among Kangaroo Island’s many attractions, Emu Bay Lavender Farm is a place that embodies tranquillity and charm. From the calming aroma of lavender fields to the delicious food and unique products, it’s an experience that feels like stepping into a serene haven.

Walking Through the Lavender Fields

As soon as we arrived, the calming scent of lavender greeted us, carried by the gentle island breeze. The fields were stunning, with their endless rows of purple blending beautifully with the surrounding Kangaroo Island landscape.

I took a stroll through the farm and was fascinated to discover that they grow 12 different varieties of lavender, including Lavandula Angustifolia and Lavandula Intermedia. Each variety is cultivated for its unique properties, whether for essential oils, culinary uses, or skincare products.

The farm spans over 51 acres and is home to around 7,500 lavender plants, making it a true lavender lover’s paradise. The atmosphere was incredibly peaceful, and I stopped often just to take in the view and breathe in the relaxing aroma.

A Taste of Lavender at the Café

The café at Emu Bay Lavender Farm is a must-visit for anyone who loves culinary adventures. Lavender takes centre stage in their menu, with options ranging from lavender ice cream to lavender tea and baked goods.

While we didn’t try the ice cream, we did enjoy their freshly baked bread served with a generous spread of lavender and strawberry jam. The bread was warm and soft, and the jam had a unique floral undertone that complemented the sweetness of the lavender. My mother loved it so much that she decided to buy a jar to take home. While the jam was a little too sweet for my taste, it’s heaven for anyone with a sweet tooth.

Shopping for Lavender Goodies

The farm’s shop is a treasure trove of lavender-inspired products. From skincare to home goods to culinary items, there’s something for everyone.

One of my favourite purchases was their lavender hand wash. I first tried it in the restroom, and the fragrance was so fresh and calming that I knew I had to bring a bottle home. My mother also found a few items she loved, including their lavender wine, loose-leaf lavender tea, and a lavender-scented lip balm.

Unfortunately, my mother later realised she was allergic to the lip balm. It’s always a good idea to check the ingredients carefully, even when products are made with natural ingredients, to avoid any adverse reactions.
